Good Housekeeping was founded in 1885 by Clark W. Bryan as a woman's magazine featuring articles about women's interests, product testing, recipes, diet, health and literary articles. In 1900, the "Experiment Station" was founded to test products, and in 1909, the magazine established the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval which gave these products a two-year limited warranty. By 1911, the magazine had achieved a circulation of 300,000 and was bought by the Hearst Corporation. Good Housekeeping is still in circulation today. All magazine covers featured in our collection are dated prior to 1923.
