William Curtis [1746-1799] was an apothecary, botanist, and entomologist. At age 25, he produced Instructions for collecting and preserving insects, and he later published Flora Londinensis, a pioneering work that featured urban nature. He established his own London Botanic Garden and went on to publish "The Botanical Magazine" in 1787. The Curtisia dentata, a South African tree used in traditional African medicine, was named in Curtis' honor.
