Pierre-Joseph Redoute [1759-1840] was a Belgian painter and botanist who was know as "The Raphael of flowers". He was an official court artist of Queen Marie Antoinette, and painted throughout the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror documenting gardens. Redoute collaborated with the greatest botanists of his day, and contributed to nearly fifty publications.
